Chester County is named after Chester, England. Chester County is part of the Philadelphia-Camden-Wilmington Metropolitan Statistical Area. Philadelphia, Bucks and Chester County were the three original counties created by William Penn on August 24, 1682. During this time Chester County’s borders were much larger than they are today stretching all the way to the Susquehanna River.
